Mend to Trend Fashion Show

The Project Group, in collaboration with Qube Arts, organised a fashion show, held on 3rd December at the Memorial Hall in Oswestry. The show was sold out and the 200 guests enjoyed an evening full of varied and interesting entertainment, including fashion and accessories created from recycled materials. The project started as an idea by fashion graduate Iona Ferch-Stuart, and ended up being a great community event, bringing together designers and models including:

- Iona Ferch-Stuart

- The Project Group

- Centre North West's fashion team headed by Guillana

- students from AS Textiles at Walford and North Shropshire College with the help of their tutor Faye Edwards

- students from Llansyllin High School

- individual designers Marina and Ceri

- VJ Martin Sumner

- changing tracks providing the music

The project would not have been possible without the enthusiastic support from our volunteers Valentine Abbatt and Mascha Willutzki. The event exceeded everyone's expectations and feedback from all involved was very positive.

Some of the outfits, bags, hats and shoes are currently on display at Qube and at the Footfall shop, Festival Square.

"Congratulations from the Telford Arts Team to all concernet. Everything was excellent and what an example of collaboration! We had a fab evening. A credit to you all."

"Just a quick note to say what a great night my husband and myself had last week at the fashion show. It was extremely well put together and what a great turn out you had."

"Thursday evening was amazing. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and felt totally inspired."

"Congratulations on a wonderful evening last night. What a tremendous result."

The project was financed by Shropshire Community Recycling Ltd.

Two new commissions

The Project Group received funding to produce two small commissions - one for The Severn Hospice (Shrewsbury) and one for Shelton Hospital (Shrewsbury). The money for these was donated by Shropshire and Telford Patient and Public Involvement (PPI).

Shropshire views

Individual members are "drawing" their favourite Shropshire view onto pieces of felt, creating a "window" with many different views of our county.  These "windows" will be assembled together in panels for display on the back wall of the Cedars cafe at Shelton Hospital.

The work also includes workshops with inpatients at Shelton, where Project Group members teach the art of drawing
with felt.

 Severn Hospice

We are also working on the design of a room divider for the Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury.  We are currently
learning and experimenting with silk paper making and are hoping to make beautiful pictures using this technique.

Our work with Oswestry Education Centre (pupil referral unit)

We started a new programme of work for the winter term with young people ages 11 to 16 who for a range of reasons are not in main stream school.  At the end of the summer term we held an evaluation of last year's sessions with the students, which gave us a lot of new ideas for the coming term.  Possible enhancements for this year's programme are:

- visits to local galleries and designers/makers

- involvement of the students in a public art commission that the Project Group is working on

- Oswestry Education Centre has recently moved to new premises. Inspired by our work on the sensory garden they are
hoping to be able to create something for their outside area

- possible involvement of the students in a a fashion show project that the Project Group is working on with fashion
designer Iona Ferch-Stewart in collaboration with Qube

You can find more information about our work with the students in the workshop section of this website.
