Recycled Materials
Shropshire Wildlife Bag
We were commissioned by Shropshire Wildlife Trust to design a bag for a treasure hunt they organise for children. The brief was very open but the bag had to be made of recycled materials.
Chloe, the designer of the bag, created a funky practical bag. She raided her children’s lunch boxes for left over wrappers and created a beautiful coloured panel for the side of the bag. The main body was made from tractor inner tube. A seatbelt formed the strap. Plastic shopping bags were made into strong cord. The “little miss garlic” was a bag charm. An empty crisp tube found a second life as a map holder.
A fun project that was very successful!

Story Bag
Following the success of the recycled bag designed for Shropshire Wildlife Trust, they have commissioned us to create a story bag for their toddler group. The bag will house song cards the group uses in their weekly session. While the brief is very open, the Wildlife Trust stressed the importance of using recycled materials to introduce this concept to the toddlers at a very young age.

Mend to Trend Fashion Show
The Project Group worked in collaboration with Qube Arts to organise a fashion show with fashion outfits and accessories mainly created from recycled materials. The show, held on 3rd December 2009 at the Memorial Hall in Oswestry, was sold out and the 200 guests enjoyed an evening full of varied and interesting entertainment,
The project started as an idea by fashion graduate Iona Ferch-Stuart, and ended up being a great community event, bringing together designers and models, and others, including:
- Iona Ferch-Stuart
- The Project Group
- Centre North West's fashion team headed by Guillana
- Textile students from Walford and North Shropshire College with the help of their tutor Faye Edwards
- students from Llansyllin High School
- individual designers Marina and Ceri
- VJ Martin Sumner
- 'changing tracks' who provided the music
The project would not have been possible without the enthusiastic support from our volunteers Valentine Abbatt and Mascha Willutzki. The event exceeded everyone's expectations and feedback from all involved was very positive.
Some of the outfits, bags, hats and shoes were on display at the Footfall shop, Festival Square.
The project was funded by SCRL (Shropshire Community Recycling Ltd).
